Congratulations Lyons Primary School!

Lyons Primary School in Toombs County recently received a Governor's SHAPE School Grant!  Lyons Primary is one of only 14 schools statewide to receive up to $5,000 to improve physical  practices at their school.activity and nutrition practices at their school.  Research shows that children are more physically active outside of school if they attend schools that promote and implement opportunities for students through-out the day such as structured recess, short classroom-based activity breaks and before and after-school activities.
"These grants will go a long way toward improving childhood fitness and nutrition," said Brenda Fitzgerald, M.D., commissioner, Georgia Department of Public Health.  "We must teach our children the importance of physical activity and the lifelong benefits of healthy eating, lessons they hopefully will carry with them throughout their lives."
At HealthMPowers we are so proud of Lyons Primary School's accomplishment, said Christi Kay, Executive Director of HealthMPowers.  "We know this grant will help them improve physical activity, healthy eating and fitness opportunities and outcomes for their students."
