HealthMPowers is a Part of the School Day at Oak Knoll Elementary!

Each morning the students and staff at Oak Knoll Elementary start the day by playing the HealthMPowers’ Body and Brain Classroom Exercise DVD over closed circuit TV.  This school feels there is no better way to get the day going than by starting out with a little exercise!  The supportive administration has taken promoting healthy habits a “step” further by encouraging each teacher to take their students out for a 15-minute recess break every day as well as provide their students with healthy snack alternatives.

Oak Knoll recognizes that it takes everyone working together to improve the school community’s nutrition and physical activity habits. A perfect example is the involvement of the cafeteria staff that has started serving whole wheat breads, fruits, vegetables and entrees low in sugar and salt.

Oak Knoll Elementary believes that it is important for school staff to be positive, healthy role models. In an effort to support this mindset, during a professional development training teachers participated in a mock P.E. class.  After completing the physical activities, faculty members were then asked to engage in a discussion that focused on the roles various organs have in the body and the lifestyle choices needed to keep them healthy.

Evidently, Oak Knoll Elementary School shares the philosophy of HealthMPowers, “we can make a difference in the lives of the children we teach today that will affect their health tomorrow.”
