Getting Students Ready for CRCT
CRCT testing is very demanding on students and staff alike. Letters are sent out to parents asking them to provide their child with a nutritious breakfast the morning of testing, asking to make sure students get at least eight hours of sleep the night before, making sure students arrive at school on time, and so forth.
King-Danforth Elementary in Bibb County helps get their students ready for CRCT testing beginning at the very start of the school year. According to Karen Grant, King-Danforth’s principal, all students are required to have a one-on-one discussion with their counselor regarding their scores for CRCT testing. They look at the scores from last year, and create an action plan on how scores can be improved. They have a list of behaviors at the bottom of the contract that can help the student accomplish their goals.
Grant decided that adding the health behaviors, that HealthMPowers teaches to the contract could possibly result in higher scores. “A student can do much better when they are eating right and exercising,” said Grant. The new contract at King-Danforth Elementary now includes the following health behaviors that students must commit to:
Eat Low-Fat Foods, Eat High-Fiber Foods, Drink Lots of Water, and Get Regular Exercise
Now with these health behaviors added to the CRCT contract, there is no stopping these students!
