HealthMPowers recently participated in the Hoop Atlanta 3 on 3 Classic Sports and Health Expo dedicated to "fighting childhood obesity one shot at a time."   The event sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia, a signature sponsor of HealthMPowers, and many others was designed to raise awareness and money to fight the growing childhood obesity epidemic.  Unlike many sporting events, there was a unique educational twist.  The only way kids and adults could participate in the contests and the tournament was to earn tickets by learning something about their health at the Sports and Health Expo.  Therefore, the more participants learned the more fun they could have.

During the event HealthMPowers and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia staff educated both parents and kids on healthier lifestyles through health screenings, information booths, and interactive activities in the Sports and Health Expo.  Participants, both young and old alike, had the opportunity to measure their body composition, bicep strength and flexibility using the TriFit machine.  They were also able to experience simulated drug and alcohol impairment using the Fatal Vision goggles while attempting to walk a straight line.  At still another station, participants learned about the amounts of sugar and fats in popular cereals, drinks and other foods.  One of the most popular stations, however, was the exercise station where kids and adults tried to move with the arrows using HealthMPowers' Mind in Motion exercise DVD.

Christi Kay, Executive Director with HealthMPowers stated, "It was wonderful to see so many kids and adults having fun playing basketball and learning more about the simple things they can do to improve their health and well being.  We were thrilled to be a part of the Sports and Health Expo".
