Roan ES Canned Food Drive/Pumpkin Success

Every year, our school, Roan Elementary School, holds a pumpkin decorating contest where each class decorates a pumpkin. Many classes decorate their pumpkins as characters from books they have read. To vote for their favorite pumpkin, students bring in a canned food item and place the can in the box beside the pumpkin they want to vote for. All the food that is collected is sent to a local food bank to help those who are less fortunate. This year, my class wanted to decorate our pumpkins as some of the Organ Wiseguys characters. We talked about some of the different characters and what their role is in our bodies. The Kidney Brothers and Hardy Heart were the ones our class chose. The HealthMPowers program has been such a positive tool in raising awareness on the importance of staying healthy. The resources that have been provided to our school are easily accessible and students enjoy the activities, especially Mind In Motion. Through the HealthMPowers program, our students have learned about the need for physical activity as well as proper nutrition needed to maintain a healthy body. Our goal is to educate students about good, healthy habits so they will be able to live a long, healthy life.
